As we start off 2023, now is the perfect time to review your practices and stay compliant.
-Updated policies Your Workplace Violence and Harassment Policy as well as your Health and Safety Policy are required to be reviewed and updated ANNUALLY. This means, reviewed, revised if needed, re-dated, and re-signed.
-Required and regular workplace training All employees are required to be trained on Workplace Violence and Harassment Prevention as well as Workplace Safety. Employees who deal with customers are required to have Accessible Customer Service Training. Double-check to ensure all employees have the required training. A best practice would be to have annual training for all employees.
-Health and Safety compliance If you have more than 5 employees, you need a Worker Health and Safety Representative (not management). If you have more than 20 employees, you need a Health and Safety Committee.
-Updates to legislation Last year the Ontario government brought in two new policies: Disconnecting from Work and Electronic Monitoring. If you have more than 25 employees, you need to have written policies on each.
-AODA report filing If you have more than 20 employees, you are required to report every three years on your AODA (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities) compliance. The next deadline is December 31, 2023. Do it now, or at least put it in your calendar as a reminder closer to the end of the year.
